Today, I want to tell you about the symbolic wedding of julia and matteo at the Mulino dell’Olio. Among the most romantic and shabby-chic venues where I celebrate weddings, a special place is undoubtedly reserved for the Mulino dell’Olio di Clivio, near Varese, North Italy, a village nestled in greenery, very close to the border with Italian Switzerland. The mill was the perfect choice for Giulia and Matteo, a young couple I had the pleasure of getting to know during these months of preparation for their wedding. Together, we embarked on an intense and passionate narrative journey.
Giulia & Matteo’s choice
Organizing your wedding is an exciting and complex task because there are so many decisions to make: the right time of year, the ideal venue, wedding attire, catering, wedding favors, choosing music, and sending invitations. The symbolic wedding ceremony, whether symbolic or with civil significance, is undoubtedly the most solemn moment of the day. It’s during this ceremony that the couple exchanges rings, mutual personal vows, and their love story is narrated. Therefore, the choice of who will officiate the wedding becomes crucial. For this reason, I was delighted and honored to have been chosen by Matteo and Giulia for their most beautiful day. Undoubtedly, choosing an intimate, rustic, and elegant venue added that extra touch of magic to this special day.
The “Mulino dell’Olio”, Clivio Mill: a charming shabby-chic venue
For the symbolic wedding ceremony and for the wedding banquet, Giulia and Matteo chose the Mulino dell’Olio, in the charming village of Clivio, in the province of Varese, near the border with Switzerland; a venue surrounded by greenery, with olive trees and the Clivio stream framing the ceremony and wedding banquet. The ceremony took place in the meadow adjacent to the stream, and the gentle flow of water provided a subtle backdrop to the narration of this beautiful couple’s love story and their promises.
The Entrance of the newlyweds
The entrance of the newlyweds was poetic and fun at the same time, accompanied by a fairytale soundtrack. The groom chose to enter arm in arm with his mother to a triumphant rendition of “Dragon Ball,” while the bride made her triumphant entrance with her father, accompanied by the notes of one of the most famous tracks from the “Harry Potter” saga. This beginning of the ceremony, in this beautiful setting and with this soundtrack, pleasantly surprised and enchanted everyone present with the playful and self-ironic mood of the couple. Giulia wore a princely wedding dress, with bare shoulders and a wide skirt with a long train. The groom was also very elegant, wearing a suit in shades of blue, complete with a vest and a detail to embellish his attire: a small white rose inserted in the buttonhole of his jacket.
Giulia & Matteo’s love story
My role as the officiant was to narrate the beautiful love story of Giulia and Matteo, starting from their first meeting at a friend’s birthday party, which they decided to attend at the last moment, up to the present day. A love story that began with love at first sight and then grew and strengthened every day until the natural and necessary decision to take the big step and get married.
Giulia & Matteo’s personal vows
The most moving moment of Giulia & Matteo’s symbolic wedding ceremony was undoubtedly the one that preceded the exchange of rings and formal vows: the couple chose to exchange their personal vows, words they thought of and wrote with their own hands, to express in the most intimate and personal way their love and their willingness to always be there for each other, with care, dedication, and devoted time. As their officiant, I guided them in this creative process with delicacy and sensitivity: I asked them some questions and delved into some aspects of their story together, leaving the creative and content phase of these precious testimonies of mutual love to them, with due respect. My role as a writer and officiant was to help them formulate these promises, already beautiful in themselves, in the most effective way and stylistically in line with their intentions. Giulia & Matteo moved everyone present, and I, too, found in their words the reflection of their souls and the depth of their love.
The exchange of rings
After the personal vows, I asked the couple the ritual questions, followed by the exchange of wedding rings. This moment was very intense: as the officiant, I wanted to introduce the exchange of rings with a brief story about the symbolism of the circle, its peculiarity of having neither a beginning nor an end; the ring is a circle, and as such, it is round like the sun, like the moon, like arms embracing, like the symbol of infinity, and like… the wheel of a mill, in homage to the splendid venue that framed this fairytale ceremony: the Mulino dell’Olio.
The exit of the newlyweds
The much-awaited moment when I uttered the words, “I now pronounce you husband and wife; you may kiss the bride!” was met by all the guests with great excitement and joy. And while the newlyweds finally exchanged their first magical kiss as husband and wife, an overwhelming music enveloped the attendees, involving them in an imaginary dance of jubilation in honor of the newlyweds. A shower of rose petals surrounded the exit of the newlyweds, who danced on the meadow next to the stream until they reached the courtyard of the mill and toasted to their new life together.

When a symbolic wedding ceremony tells such a beautiful love story, choosing the right venue that aligns with the character and tastes of the couple becomes the icing on the cake, adding that touch of magic and elegant uniqueness to an already memorable day. For me, as the officiant, being able to narrate my couples’ story with the rustling sound of the stream, in complete harmony with nature, among olive trees and ancient stones that speak of a past rich in tradition and a present overflowing with magic, is the deepest joy.
